Eight students from Dubiski Career High School in South Grand Prairie, Texas brought home top-ten finishes from the Skills USA National Leadership Conference this past June.  “We were ecstatic to have them all place in the top 10 in the Nation,” stated Gloria Trevino, one of the students’ instructors.

More than 6,000 career and technical education students –– all state contest winners –– competed hands-on in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields in the competition held in Louisville, KY. Students work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations such as electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and graphic communications.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It serves teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations, as well as further education.

John A. Dubiski is a GPISD public high school of choice with a focus on equipping students with the skills they need for 21st century professions.  The five Schools within Dubiski are aligned with the U.S. Department of Labor Career Clusters. Students choose a sequential course of study designed to prepare them for a 2 year or 4 year college, or enter the work force with a license or certification. There are 13 different programs, including Graphic Communications within the five schools.
