We are a growing print and marketing solutions provider specializing in high-quality digital, direct mail, and variable data printing. We’re looking for a detail-oriented Variable Data Prepress & Digital Print Specialist who enjoys working in a collaborative production environment and takes pride in delivering precise, high-quality print files. This role works closely with account managers, data specialists, and production staff to ensure projects move smoothly from file preparation through final print.
Position Overview
The Variable Data Prepress & Digital Print Specialist is responsible for preparing and processing digital print files with variable data for production. This role ensures files are accurate, optimized for print, and compliant with production standards while maintaining strict quality control. In addition, this position supports the team by providing guidance and mentoring to less-experienced specialists, sharing technical knowledge, and assisting with troubleshooting to maintain consistent production quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and optimize print files for digital and variable data printing.
- Set up and manage variable data campaigns using customer-provided databases.
- Perform preflight checks, color corrections, and file adjustments to ensure print readiness.
- Generate proofs and work closely with account managers and clients to resolve file issues.
- Maintain data integrity and ensure accurate variable content placement (text, images, barcodes, etc.).
- Operate and troubleshoot variable data software and RIP workflows.
- Collaborate with production teams to meet deadlines and maintain workflow efficiency.
- Follow company quality standards and documentation procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in prepress, digital printing, or variable data production.
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Experience with variable data composition software (such as XMPie, FusionPro, or similar).
- Understanding of PDF workflows, imposition, and color management.
- Basic knowledge of database formats (Excel, CSV, or SQL-based data) for variable data printing.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with direct mail production or marketing personalization campaigns.
- Familiarity with RIP software and digital presses (Canon, HP Indigo, Xerox, etc.).
- Understanding of postal requirements and mail sorting workflows.
- Pitstop and Switch experience is a plus.
